Understanding Print
We produce only two types of print, which we sell through our online gallery; limited edition and open edition. Both of which are produced and published by Zeitgeist Fine Art. We are a self-publishing gallery, which means we source and proof the print production. This means we have first hand approval of any prints distributed through our website or through subsequent galleries which exhibit our work.
Our prints are produced in Giclee (zhee clay) it is the most precise means of reproduction today. It really has taken reproduction technology into the 21st Century. So accurate is the reproduction technique that it is hard even for the professionals to distinguish the original from a reproduction when framed. It is an involved process, which requires careful supervision throughout each level of production to ensure consistency and accuracy in each reproduction.
Giclee inks are vibrant and therefore ideally suited for the reproduction of Alister Colley’s artwork. The ink is Ph neutral so they do not erode the paper they are printed on, the manufacturer guarantee that the inks will not to degrade in tone or colour for 65 years.
Limited Edition Print
Limited Edition prints are produced after a designated number of reproduction prints have been declared. Once that number is agreed the print edition is produced and the said quantity cannot deviate. In order that the Edition is recognised and remains ‘limited’ numbers should not exceed 795.
As an investment Limited Edition prints can increase in price in accordance to the success and speed a particular edition may sell. The fewer number of prints left in that edition then the higher the value of those remaining, the quicker they sell then the higher the value of the earliest editions sold.
Our Limited Edition prints are produced to meet specific requirements recognised by the Fine Art Trade Guild, for example as already stated the inks are Ph neutral and guaranteed, and the paper we produce the prints on is the highest quality print paper.
The paper is High Art Velvet paper and is also produced to a Ph neutral level so as not to degrade the inks.
Each Limited Edition print we sell is supplied with a certificate of authenticity, which states; the title of the print, the date of production, the medium the original painting was produced in, the number of the print and its edition size, the size of the print and finally the artists signature which proofs the condition of the print.
Open Edition print
Open Edition print means that there is no restriction on a particular number in production. In addition to this Open Edition prints can vary in size and sometimes even the format they are printed in or the format they are printed on, whether that might be paper, card, cloth or even on ceramics. This does not mean we compromise on the quality of the print.
